The European Union has already pledged to provide Ukraine with at least 1.35 million artillery shells by the end of this year. This was announced by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, speaking to the press in Lviv together with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Sibiga thanks Kallas for initiative to provide Ukraine with 2 million artillery shells this year.

"We already have commitments from the [EU] member states to supply more than 1.35 million [shells]," the foreign minister said .

He added that work to increase this number is ongoing.

  • on March 20, 2025, Kallas proposed to give Ukraine €5 billion worth of ammunition.
  • On the same day, Bloomberg reported that the EU did not agree on this proposal due to the position of France and Italy.
  • As of April 14, the EU was two-thirds fundraising for the initiative to give Ukraine €5 billion for 2 million rounds of ammunition.
