"We have a plan B and a plan C". Kallas comments on Hungary's blocking of Ukraine's accession to the EU
The European Union has an understanding of how to act if Hungary's veto on Ukraine's accession is not overcome. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas told journalists in Lviv, reports Evropeiska pravda.
Kallas claims that Brussels is firmly convinced that bilateral issues should not slow down Ukraine's accession to the EU, and European institutions are preparing for a possible blockade.
"We have a plan B and a plan C. But our focus is plan A, the essence of which is to get everyone's support," the head of European diplomacy emphasized, adding that negotiations with Budapest are ongoing.
"Ukraine has its homework to do, and the EU also has to do its homework. And we are working with the Hungarian government," Kallas continued.
According to her, if a compromise is not found, the EU is ready to act. Kallas emphasized that Brussels is working on a plan B, but refused to disclose it.
"The accession process, or, as we call it, the reunification process, is important not only for Ukraine but also for the European Union," she summarized.
