The rumor about Ambassador to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhnyi's return to Ukraine could have been created for two reasons: to spread rumors about his vacation in the Dominican Republic and to derail his political ambitions..

This opinion was expressed by interlocutors in the General Staff and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a commentary for analysis by LIGA.net

The first reason for the fake news is that it was a reaction to rumors about the general's vacation in the Dominican Republic.

"It's a kind of information warfare: since there is a fake news about the Dominican Republic, we need to respond with something, because an information campaign has begun. We responded like this," said the source, who is close to the General Staff.

BACKGROUND
Information about Zaluzhny's alleged vacation in the Dominican Republic was spread by on December 25 by non-factional MP Mariana Bezuhla, adding a photo of the general on the beach. At the same time, she accused investigative journalists of covering, the Monaco battalion and the story of the then "servant" Mykola Tyshchenko in Thailand, and the story with Zaluzhnyi allegedly in the Dominican Republic was not.

During Zaluzhnyi's tenure as chief of the Armed Forces, Bezuhla constantly demanded his resignation and accused him of problems at the front and of not providing the Verkhovna Rada with plans for the conduct of the war.

The second reason is a false start or an attempt to derail the general's political ambitions.

A source in the Foreign Ministry ironically said that they are now trying to take Zaluzhnyi down the same path as former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba . The latter was "dismissed" at least six times during the year before this happened In fact, .

  • A hypothetical return to the ranks of the Armed Forces is extremely unlikely, because before his appointment to the diplomatic post he was declared unfit for military service, sources told LIGA.net in the General Staff.
  • The media also occasionally hear rumors about Zaluzhny's alleged intentions to run for election. In October, he denied this: he says he is not creating any headquarters or parties.
