Navrotsky asks Zelensky for a larger-scale exhumation of victims of the Volyn tragedy

The newly elected President of Poland Karol Navrotsky, who will take office on August 6, has asked President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to scale up the process of exhumation of victims of the Volyn tragedy. He said this during his participation in the ceremony of commemoration of the victims of the genocide in Chełm, reports RMF 24.

"Mr. Ambassador, as president-elect, I would like to officially appeal to Your Excellency and President Zelensky to allow full-scale exhumations in Volyn. Poles are waiting for this truth, and Volyn families are still suffering from the trauma that happened 82 years ago," Navrotsky said .

He noted that this is necessary for Poland and Ukraine to "reconcile for real" and "through the truth.".

Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Bodnar also attended the ceremony. He agreed with Navrotsky's words that the future can only be built on the truth and assured that the Ukrainian side is open to dialogue on complex issues.

"We need to discuss this story openly. Of course, we must call a crime a crime. We must apologize, but we must also honor the memory of those victims who need it, on both sides of the border," Bondar said .

The ambassador noted that exhumation work had recently been carried out in Poznyky, with plans to continue in Zboishche (an area in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Lviv). Permits for work at a number of other sites are also expected .
