Putin confirms "honorary title" as Russian strike damages Kyiv embassies – Ukraine's FM
The morning attack on Kyiv on December 20 caused damage to the embassies of six countries, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
"[Vladimir] Putin confirmed the honorary title bestowed upon him yesterday by Ukraine's president... Several embassies in Kyiv were damaged during the attack. All these embassies are located in the same building, which suffered significant damage," Tykhyi stated.
The affected embassies include those of Albania, Argentina, Palestine, North Macedonia, Portugal, and Montenegro. Windows, doors, and sections of ceilings were damaged, but no foreign diplomats were injured.
Ukrainian authorities are assessing the damage and working on repairs.
Tykhyi called the strike another "barbaric" attack by Russia, emphasizing that targeting international institutions crosses "red lines" globally.
The Foreign Ministry also confirmed damage to the St. Nicholas Cathedral, a prominent architectural landmark. Ukraine has already informed its partners about the attack and its consequences.
