Chinese leader Xi Jinping is ready to call President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but on his own timetable, Sky News reported with reference to a French diplomatic source.

According to the interlocutor, Beijing is ready to cooperate with Paris to "push hard" to start negotiations on ending the war.

Xi Jinping has not spoken to Zelenskyy since the start of the full-scale invasion, but he flew to Moscow to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Chinese state media quoted Xi as saying that China's policy toward Ukraine can be summed up in one sentence: "Promote peace and dialogue."

Today, French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in China for a three-day visit and has already met with Xi.

According to Macron, he and Xi reached an "agreement on principles" during the talks, which mainly focused on Russia's war against Ukraine. Xi called for "restraint on the part of all political partners" and said China hopes to "achieve peace through a political solution." He also said that countries "must ensure the protection of civilians and prevent the use of nuclear weapons."
