Special permits for titanium ore and Channel 112: Ukraine extends sanctions against Firtash and Kozak

Ukraine extends sanctions against oligarch Dmytro Firtash and a former MP suspected of high treason, Taras Kozak, the restrictions also apply to related individuals and companies. By this decision, Kyiv has harmonized sanctions with the UK. About this reported president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"First, we are extending sanctions against former oligarch Dmytro Firtash and, in synchronization, applying sanctions against his inner circle and the company he controls. All entities associated with Russia and its structures deserve to be blocked," the President said.
Zelenskyy also announced the extension of sanctions against Kozak, one of the closest associates of the ex-MP suspected of treason Viktor Medvedchuk, and eight companies related to him.
The president noted that Medvedchuk and Kozak "chose Russia, and therefore war," long before the full-scale invasion.
"We will continue to counteract every such entity," the head of state announced.
On his website appeared two decrees enacting the relevant decisions of the National Security and Defense Council. The first one extends sanctions against Kozak for 10 years, including the freezing of assets. Also, companies that have been spreading pro-Russian propaganda will continue to be subject to restrictions. In particular, this refers to the 112-TV TV and Radio Company LLC (112 Ukraine TV channel). These sanctions were first imposed in 2021.
The second decree extended the restrictions against Firtash himself, as well as imposed them on his wife Lada and a banker, Denys Horbunenko.
In addition, sanctions were imposed against Tiberius Plus LLC.
Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko writes that sanctions against Firtash provide legal grounds to cancel three special permits for titanium ore mining in Zhytomyr and Dnipropetrovs'k regions.
In the case of the Malashevske field (Motronivsky Mining and Processing Plant LLC in the Dnipropetrovs'k region), the restrictions apply to the aforementioned Tiberius Plus, which was involved in an attempt to get the special permit exempt from sanctions, the official explained.
"Strategic assets will continue to be transferred to new investors through transparent auctions," she added.
- Ukraine imposes sanctions against Firtash in 2021 for allegedly supplying titanium to Russian arms manufacturers. The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions in 2024.
