WP: Trump jokes about three countries joining the U.S. to silence

During an elite private dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday, January 31, U.S. President Donald Trump made a speech during which he "joked" about his intention to expand the country's territory by adding Greenland, Canada and Venezuela. This was written by The Washington Post with reference to unnamed participants in the event.
It was the first time Trump spoke at the annual banquet at the elite Alfalfa Club, which brought together politicians, entrepreneurs and public figures. At the time of the presidential speech, the audience included, in particular:
→ Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, the largest US bank holding company, whom Trump is suing over account closures and who has previously criticized the president for resolving the trade war;
→ investor David Rubenstein, whom he fired from his position as head of the Kennedy Center;
→ Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who blames the Trump administration threats of criminal prosecution.
"I hate so many people in this room. I like most of you. Who the hell could have thought this would happen?" Trump said.
Then he once again announced his "geopolitical plans."
The US president joked that he would be forced to cut his speech short because he "had to watch the invasion of Greenland."
According to WP, some jokes "fell flat" and the room fell silent again and again.
"We are not going to invade Greenland. We are going to buy it. I don't want to make it the 51st state. I want to make Canada the 51st state, Greenland will be the 52nd, and Venezuela will be the 53rd," Trump later added.
The head of the White House also mentioned political opponents. According to the participants, he made a rude joke about Senator Elizabeth Warren. Trump said that he calls her "Pocahontas" because of her statements about her Indian ancestry. According to him, she was supposed to be at the banquet "but couldn't find her reservation."
Of Condoleezza Rice, who was also among those present, he said that he "always thought she would be the first woman president."
"Never in my life would I have thought that Joe Biden will be ahead of her," Trump said, suggesting that the real president of the United States was former First Lady Jill Biden.
According to The Washington Post, Trump also publicly threatened the chairman of the Federal Reserve System with a lawsuit, demanding that interest rates be cut. However, a few minutes later, the president called his threats a "joke" and emphasized that he expects "concrete steps" from the agency.
The publication noted that the dinner, where Trump entertained the audience, took place a week after the fatal the shooting in Minneapolis and against the backdrop of the publication of 3 million documents related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, accused of sexual crimes.
- Trump has stated that he wants to own Greenland in order to to protect the country from China and Russia.
- Greenland recognized that security in the Arctic need to be strengthened against the backdrop of Russia's actions, but emphasized that they have "red lines" in negotiations with Trump.
- on January 31, Trump said that negotiations on Greenland allegedly have already begun and are "close to a deal."
