The draft law on marking May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted to the Verkhovna Rada, should be adopted by the end of the month, Oleksandr Korniyenko, the first deputy chairman of the parliament, stated on national television.

"By the end of May, I hope, the Verkhovna Rada will adopt this initiative of the president as a basis and in general without much discussion and amendments. And we will legislate a new model: May 8 – the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War, May 9 – Europe Day," he said.

During the morning address on May 8, the head of state also announced that starting tomorrow, Ukraine will celebrate Europe Day on May 9 every year.

On Sunday, Defense Intelligence representative Andriy Yusov suggested that Russia may be preparing provocations against Ukraine on May 9.

On May 8, Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Malyar said that the possibility of an escalation on May 9 remains, as the war continues.
