Zelensky: Greenland story can be used to take away territories from Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggests that the geopolitical situation around the island of Greenland, which has provoked a crisis in relations between Denmark and the United States, could be used to "recognize" Ukrainian territories as Russian. He said this during a conversation with media representatives on January 29, the correspondent LIGA.net.
"In my opinion, the story of Greenland is a specific story that can be used tomorrow to take away territories from us and de jure recognize it. We should look at it this way" – the President said.
Zelenskyy noted that he considers the response of Denmark and NATO allies to the territorial claims ineffective.
"And when a few dozen soldiers are sent to support Denmark, then... What does this mean? What is the signal? God is their judge. If somewhere else those territories are simply recognized, what will happen here? If they recognize it there, then it is likely that they will recognize it here. This is what is happening. It is what it is" – he emphasized.
- on January 10, US President Trump announced his desire to own Greenland in order to protect the island and the United States from Russia and China.
- on January 29, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres explained why Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas cannot be equated with Greenland as Russia wants.
- After that the Foreign Ministry responded to Russia to statements about the "self-determination" of Donbas.
