On the evening of December 30, a blackout occurred in the Russian suburbs of Moscow, leaving more than 100,000 people without power. Traffic lights and street lighting are not working, and dozens of buildings are without power.

The power company Rosseti Moscow Region said that the power went out in Zhukovsky, Lytkarino and Ramenskoye in the Moscow region. There were also complaints from residents of Siverka in Ramenskoye. The preliminary cause was a fire in an electrical bus, while other reports suggest an automatic shutdown at a high-voltage substation in the region.

Restoration work is allegedly already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of the day. However, locals suggest that due to the holidays, the problem may be delayed until early January.

The moment of the blackout coincided with the threat of a drone attack in the Moscow region. A strike on a power substation is not ruled out.
