The European Union introduced sanctions against the terrorist organization Wagner Group and its associated "information agency" RIA FAN, according to the decision published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Thursday.

The Council of the EU notes that these organizations pose a threat to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

On November 6, 2022, the report of the Institute for the Study of War mentioned that most of the mercenaries of the terrorist organization Wagner Group are convicts.

In early April 2023, it was reported that a mercenary convicted of murder was detained in Russia on suspicion of another murder a few days after his return from the war in Ukraine.

On April 10, the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi said that the defenders of Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast had exhausted the Wagner militants, so Russia was forced to involve special forces and airborne assault units in the battles.
