Starlink "white list": Ministry of Defense explains how to find out terminal numbers for verification

To verify Starlink satellite communication terminals in Ukraine, you need to know the KIT number and UTID of your device. Instructions on where they are located, published Ministry of Defense.

The KIT number is located on the shipping label of the terminal kit. Example: KIT00000000.

Instead, the UTID is located in the Starlink application:

→ on the main screen, press the "Menu" button (in the upper left corner);

→ then scroll down the page and tap on the "information bubble" with the letter "i";

→ in the "Starlink" section, find the Starlink ID/terminal ID;

→ example of UTID – 01000000-00000000-00e1c9f7 (the letters "ut" at the beginning of the identifier should not be taken into account).

The day before, on February 2, the head of the Defense Ministry Mykhailo Fedorov reported that the government has passed a resolution to introduce a "white list" for Starlink, announcing that soon only verified and registered terminals will operate in Ukraine, while all others will be shut down.

At the same time, the Ministry of Defense has published instructions about how military and civilians will need to verify their Starlink.

The decision to register the terminals was made after the occupiers used these devices in their drones.

  • On January 29, the Defense Ministry announced that Ukraine and SpaceX are solving the problem the use of Starlink on Russian drones. The Ukrainian agency contacted the company a few hours after the first such UAV was spotted.
  • On February 1, Fedorov reported that unverified Starlink terminals in Ukraine will disconnect as part of further steps to combat Russian drones using terminals for attacks.
  • Space X founder and CEO Musk noted that the steps taken to stop Russia's unauthorized use of Starlink seem to have worked.
