Tandyr's bail was set at UAH 119 million. He says there is no such money
Former judge Oleksiy Tandyr, who in 2023 knocked down to death a National Guard soldier at a checkpoint in Kyiv, was granted the opportunity to be released on multimillion-dollar bail, Babel media reports.
The court granted Tandyr bail in the amount of UAH 119 million as an alternative to detention.
However, during the hearing, the ex-judge stated that he did not have such funds. He has now been returned to the pre-trial detention center.
The representative of the injured party asked for bail of 100 million. At the same time, the prosecutor wanted Tandyr to be held in custody without the right to bail.
Media Graty writes that the relevant hearing was held in the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv.
At the same time, Tandyr's lawyers are not satisfied with the decision and claim that the bail is too high.
Recently, on January 22, the European Court of Human Rights ordered to pay the defendant 2,100 euros for his detention in a pre-trial center and 250 euros in reimbursement of court costs. According to the institution, the Ukrainian courts illegally extended Tandyr's arrest without the possibility of bail and did not consider alternatives.
The former judge spent more than two and a half years in custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
- On May 26, 2023, Tandyr, at that time the head of the Makariv District Court, knocked down to death 23-year-old NGU soldier Vadym Bondarenko at a checkpoint in Kyiv.
- Biological samples were forcibly taken from the judge. Later, the DBR reported that Tandyr was drunk during an accident. At the same time, he tried to distort the contents of the samples because he wanted to hide his state of intoxication.
- In August 2024, the High Council of Justice dismissed Tandyr from the post of judge.
