The spokesman for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov confirmed that US President Donald Trump had asked the Kremlin chief not to shell Ukrainian energy sector, and he allegedly agreed. He said this in a comment to Russian propagandists.

"Indeed, President Trump addressed President Putin with a personal request to refrain for a week – until February 1 – from launching strikes on Kyiv in order to create favorable conditions for negotiations," Peskov said .

According to him, Putin allegedly agreed.

Peskov was unable to answer a clarifying question whether it was only an "energy truce" or "all strikes in general," saying again that it was "about creating favorable conditions for negotiations.".

He was also unable to answer the question of whether the deadline was February 1 or not – he repeated that it was "until February 1.".

Commenting on Putin's possible meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian leader's refusal to go to the territory of the aggressor country for this purpose, Peskov said: "Putin did not proactively invite Zelenskyy anywhere and did not offer any meetings to Zelenskyy... Zelenskyy, in fact, initiates the meeting. And in response, President Putin told him that yes, we are ready, but only in Moscow. It is very important to remember this.".

Zelensky has already said that it is impossible, that he cannot come "to the capital of this terrorist," and that invitations to Moscow are issued because the other side "does not want a meeting, but cannot afford to say so directly for some reason.".

"It's the same as meeting Putin in Kyiv. I can also invite him to Kyiv, let him come. I publicly invite him, if he dares, of course," Zelensky said.

  • on January 29, rumors began to spread in the Russian segment of Telegram about the alleged introduction of an energy truce between Russia and Ukraine. Russians expressed dissatisfaction.
  • Later, Trump said that personally asked Putin not to shell Ukrainian energy for a week due to the increasing frost.
  • Zelenskyy said that Ukraine would respond in a mirror image to Russia's steps. He is not sure whether the "energy truce" will work and emphasized that there were no direct agreements between Ukraine and Russia.
