Russia and the United States discussed Israel's occupation of the West Bank as a model for ending the war in Ukraine. This was discussed... reports The Times, citing a source close to the US National Security Council.

This topic was allegedly raised a few weeks ago during talks between the US President's special envoy.By Steve Witcoff and representatives of the Russian side.

According to the Americans, the idea allows bypassing the provisions of the Ukrainian constitution and leaving the occupied territories to Russia without holding a nationwide referendum.

Under this scenario, the aggressor country would have military and economic control over the occupied part of Ukraine, governed by its own governing body, mirroring Israel's de facto rule over Palestinian territory.

"It will be the same as Israel occupying the West Bank. With a governor, with an economic situation that concerns Russia, not Ukraine. But it will still be Ukraine, because... Ukraine will never give up its sovereignty. But the reality is that it will be an occupied territory, and the model is Palestine," the source told The Times.

It is noted that in this model, it only remains to establish the exact boundaries of the Russian occupation.

Israeli forces seized the West Bank, the land between Israel and the Jordan River, during the 1967 Six-Day War. Today, Israel maintains full control over the territory, although since the 1990s, a Palestinian government, known as the Palestinian Authority, has governed most of its cities and towns. Palestinians are subject to Israeli military control and must obtain permits from Israel to travel between the West Bank and other Palestinian territories in Gaza and East Jerusalem. The UN International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel's occupation is illegal.
