President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia violated the energy truce, agreed upon with the United States, after a massive Russian attack on the night of February 3. The Head of State said this during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kyiv, which Suspilne broadcasted.

According to Zelenskyy, the occupiers have once again ignored the efforts of the American side.

"It was request of the president of the United States [Donald Trump] to refrain from striking the energy sector and critical infrastructure [...] during the meeting of our negotiating teams. And the President of the United States said that we should refrain from strikes for a week," the Ukrainian leader said.

He emphasized that the truce actually began on the night of Friday, January 30, and Ukraine believes that the occupiers broke their promise with the February 3 strike.

"That is, either Russia now believes that there are four incomplete days in a week instead of seven, or they are really betting on war. [...] And they just waited for the coldest days of this winter, when it is more than -20 Celsius in a large part of Ukraine," the president said.

Zelenskyy stressed: Kyiv believes that this Russian strike really violates what the United States agreed on, and there should be consequences.

The head of state emphasized that the occupants had attacked the energy sector to deprive people of light and heat: "This is Russia's true attitude to everything that is happening."

Ukraine will be in contact with the United States on this issue  and Zelenskyy expects that "partners will not remain silent" about what is happening.

Earlier, the president said that certain adjustments would be made to the work of the Ukrainian delegation after this massive attack by the invaders. Meetings with the US and Russia are scheduled for February 4-5 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

  • On the night and morning of February 3, Russia attacked Ukraine with 71 missiles of various types and 450 drones, about 430 of which were Shaheds. According to the Air Force, 38 missiles and 412 drones were shot down or suppressed by electronic warfare systems.
  • After the attack in Kyiv and Kharkiv, thousands of homes were left without heat, Odesa and Vinnytsia regions were without electricity. Under attack again were DTEK thermal power plants.
  • Kharkiv authorities declare an emergency as a result of Russia's massive attacks – due to the destruction of energy infrastructure, almost 105,000 consumers were left without heat.
  • The Russians also damaged the Hall of Fame of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II beneath the Motherland monument.
