Not a single building in Mariupol has been left without damage, with around 80-90% of the city destroyed, deputy city mayor Serhiy Orlov told Forbes Ukraine.
The city council estimated that as of 15 March, the Russian army had carried out 22 air raids on the city, dropping 100 bombs on Mariupol. By the time of the blockade, an estimated 350,000 to 400,000 people remained in the city.
There were few available water sources for the half-million-strong city, he says.
"Some small proportion of people in the private sector can draw water from wells. Plus, people have no heating; they flush water from heating systems and use that water. Some people say - we take water from puddles, when there was snow, we drowned it..." said the deputy mayor.
As of March 13, 2,358 people died in the city, including those whose bodies were found in the street. It is not yet known how many are under the rubble, Orlov said. Mariupol residents are buried in a mass grave.

"We know that we had three ships that were attacked by Russian missiles, but the entire crew is intact, we have material damage," said Noriel Arauz, administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority.
According to Arauz, another 10 Panamanian-flagged ships remain blocked by Russia in the Black Sea - the Russian occupiers are restricting the ships' exit.

China's ambassador to the US, Qin Gang, claims that China did not know in advance about Russia's intention to attack Ukraine. If Beijing had known about Putin's plans, it would have tried to prevent it. He told the Washington Post.
"There were more than 6,000 Chinese in Ukraine. China is Russia and Ukraine's largest trading partner and the largest importer of crude oil and natural gas in the world. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is not good for China. If China had known about the impending crisis, we would have done everything possible to prevent it," he stressed.
The diplomat stressed that China supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, including Ukraine.

Russian sabotage groups may enter Ukraine from Europe, the National Security and Defence Council's Centre for Countering Disinformation has warned.
"This time the occupiers have found a 'loophole' from the European side. They stop by with IDs of journalists of the Ruptly video agency, which is a subsidiary of the Russia Today agency. The Russian video news agency has an office in Berlin," the centre explained.
Fake journalists may show an ID card stating "Redfish Channel" or "Maffick Agency".
The National Security and Defence Council is asking to pass information about enemy DRGs to the SBU chatbot - @stop_russian_wars_bot.
Russian occupation troops are looting occupied Ukrainian villages, breaking into people's homes, taking food, and throwing people out into the street. For the last few years, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have given them a decent repulse. Dmytro Zhyvitsky, head of the Sumy military administration, wrote this on Facebook.
"We see every move the Russian terrorist troops make and do with them what we have! And we have quite a few achievements. Today we fought off the savage orcs in our Akhtyrsky district. At night the asses of the Trostyanets Kafirs were on fire! They got what they deserved, our "jewellers" from the AFU knocked out their artillery positions. The rest of the day continued with the fighting for this direction. In Boroml they managed to destroy several Self-propelled artilleries and Buk missile system of the Russian orcs and also hit their ammunition," the report said.
According to Zhyvytskyy, hostilities continued for several hours in a row in another direction - for Velyka Pysarivka. He added that "the Russian enemies saw hell for real today".

Britain's defence ministry said that the Russian occupation army was hitting the wrong targets during the bombardment of Ukraine because it had already used up modern high-precision weapons and was using older ones.
"Given the delays in achieving its targets and its inability to control Ukrainian airspace, Russia has probably spent far more air weapons than originally planned," it was reported as saying.
According to the British institution, the Kremlin regime has started using old weapons - their use, unfortunately, can lead to heavy civilian casualties.

As a result, it is likely Russia is resorting to the use of older, less precise weapons, which are less militarily effective and more likely to result in civilian casualties.
The skies over Canada have also been closed to aircraft from Belarus, Canada's Transport Minister Omar Alghabra tweeted.
"We prohibit Belarusian aircraft from using Canadian airspace due to their support for Russian aggression in Ukraine," Alghabra wrote.
The prohibition also applies to Belarusian airline operators, Transport Canada's official Twitter account was quoted as saying.
These are actions within the framework of sanctions against Russia and its allies in the war against Ukraine.
The Foreign Ministry has called for tougher sanctions against Russia for the airstrike on the Mariupol drama theatre, as the occupiers deliberately destroyed civilians and children - they knew that Mariupol residents were using the building as a bomb shelter. Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Mykolenko wrote this on Facebook.
"This crime was committed at a time when the president of the UN International Court of Justice was reading out an order that obliged Russia to immediately stop all military actions on Ukrainian territory.
Putin's regime has long crossed the line of humanity. Ukrainian diplomats will do their utmost to ensure that everyone involved in this and hundreds of other crimes against Ukrainians is punished.
We call on the international community to increase sanctions pressure on Russia to stop the Russian army's atrocities in Ukraine, as well as to continue supporting our state to protect the Ukrainian people," it was reported.
On 16 March, 6,426 people were evacuated from Mariupol, 2,039 of them children, who are now in Zaporizhzhya. This was reported at a briefing by the Ukrainian minister for reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories, Iryna Vereshchuk.
"Our convoy with food supplies and evacuation buses was still not allowed into Mariupol. Given the situation, a gathering of people was organised to get out of blockaded Mariupol to Berdyansk. Now all 15 buses with Mariupol residents have reached Zaporizhzhya, where they are provided with necessary aid," she said.
According to Vereshchuk, food and medicines prepared for Mariupol residents have been left in Berdyansk - the city has deployed points to help those in need.
Canada has blocked the broadcasting of two Russian TV channels Russia Today, RT and RT France. This was reported by the Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications Commission.
"Foreign channels can be removed from the permitted broadcast list if their programming does not meet the standards adhered to by Canadian services or if their continued distribution no longer serves the public interest, as was the case with RT and RT France," it was reported.
Quotes from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address.
"There was another protest in Berdyansk today. A protest against the occupiers from the Russian Federation. Thousands of brave civilians came out against the armed Russian military. And told them everything, everything they deserve. It's very important. I know it's difficult. But it is also important that they heard from people, including in Russian, a clear and unambiguous message: occupiers, go home. There is still such an opportunity. Every soldier, who was brought into the territory of our country, has one. Every soldier who has not yet been killed, wounded or taken prisoner.
...
Humanitarian corridors were unfortunately not working on Wednesday. The Russian military did not stop shelling, did not guarantee security.
We are ready to ensure silence. We are ready to take people away and send humanitarian supplies. But we cannot expose people to gunfire on the road. Understand us. Under that there is no war crime for the Russian military that they have not committed.
We pick up Mariupol residents who managed to escape to Berdyansk... We take away from Zaporizhzhya. In just a day, we managed to transport over 6,000 Mariupol residents, over 2,000 of them children.
The Russian military tried to disrupt traffic as well. They opened mortar fire on a section of road between Vasylivka and Kamianske in Zaporizhzhya Region. Only by a miracle were there no fatalities. Five Ukrainians were wounded, including two children.
In Chernihiv, Kafirs opened fire on civilians who were just standing in line to buy bread. Imagine that. Ten dead.
In Mariupol, in besieged Mariupol, Russian aviation deliberately dropped a heavy-duty bomb on the Drama Theatre in the centre of the city. Hundreds of people were sheltering from shelling there.... The building was destroyed. The death toll is not yet known. It breaks my heart to see what Russia is doing to our people. With our Mariupol. With the Donetsk region..."
...
"I promise everyone, every Ukrainian who has lost their home, who has lost their flat as a result of hostilities or shelling, that the state will rebuild everything. It will rebuild on its own.
I am confident that we will quickly build our state. No matter what the losses may be... It will be a historic reconstruction. A project that will inspire the world as much as our struggle for our freedom. Just as our struggle for our Ukraine."
...
"For the sake of peace for us, the delegation of Ukraine is talking to the delegation of Russia. And I want to be heard now by all our citizens, the citizens of Ukraine.
Negotiations are going on. Negotiations on Ukraine.
My priorities in the negotiations are very clear: an end to the war, security guarantees, sovereignty, restoration of territorial integrity, real guarantees for our country, real protection of our country."
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address on 16 March:
The enemy is trying to fortify where it has managed to occupy territory, all subsequent offensives are unsuccessful, according to an evening report from the Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff on 16 March.
The key points are:
• the enemy has not achieved its strategic objective in the offensive;
• The Russian Federation continues bombing Ukrainian cities from the air from the territory of Belarus;
• Belarusian border guards are constantly monitoring what is happening in Ukrainian border settlements, reconnaissance officers are questioning citizens who have crossed the border.
As of the following directions:
Polissya - the enemy is conducting reconnaissance. There are no significant successes. In one attempt, the occupiers suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment and were forced to activate reserves prematurely.
Siversk and Slobozhan - no active offensives from the enemy's side. The invaders are trying to consolidate on the previously seized lines, regroup their troops, and resupply.
"The enemy does not abandon attempts to advance the South of the town of Izyum, probably in order to continue the offensive in the direction of Slavyansk. There has been no success," the General Staff notes.
South Bug - the enemy continues attempts to hold on an occupied position. They are trying to relocate surviving equipment after the AFU strike on the Kherson airfield, which is temporarily under the enemy's control.
It is also known that Russian ships are blocking ship traffic in the Northwestern part of the Black Sea.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki addressed his European colleagues after his visit to Kyiv, urging them to visit the Ukrainian capital which is now confronting Russian occupiers forces. He said this in the interview to TVP Info.
"I urge European leaders, the President of France, the German Chancellor, and the British Prime Minister to go to Kyiv, to look into the eyes of the weeping mothers, look closely at the Ukrainian nation, strengthen their will to fight," - he stressed.
Morawiecki added that he hoped for a quick reaction from his European colleagues. According to him, Ukrainians now need "that partners from the West put their calculators in their crates, open their conscience, and look at what is happening inside Europe, in the third decade of the 21st century".

UKRAINIANS ARE UNCONQUERABLE
Russian tanks of the elite Kantemirov Guards Division are stuck in the Sumy region.
The Kremlin is the collective Hitler of the 21st century, so now is the time for strong decisions that will shape a new world order based on justice, humanism, truth and fairness, where terrorists and tyrants will not be able to dictate their will. This was said by Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the North Atlantic Council at defence minister level.
Key messages from Reznikov's speech:
• After the failure of blitzkrieg tactics, the Kremlin and its generals turned to terror tactics - with massacres of civilians, destruction and brutality.
• In the three weeks of active warfare, the Russian occupiers have already killed 103 Ukrainian children, maimed over 100 and killed around 3,000 civilians.
• The occupiers are committing a real act of genocide in Mariupol. It is being wiped out by aircraft, rockets and artillery. Local authorities estimate civilian casualties at around 20,000. And that number is growing by the minute.
• The Ukrainian army is manageable and combat-ready. Tens of thousands of patriots have taken up arms to defend Ukraine. All our military units operate as a single organism and according to the plan of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief in Kyiv.
• Russia has already lost more soldiers than within the two Chechen wars. More than 13,000 servicemen, more than 400 tanks and 1,200 armoured vehicles. We have shot down 80 aircraft and almost 100 helicopters. We have eliminated several Russian generals.
• The consequences of the criminal actions of the Russian occupiers could be catastrophic. They have already seized two Ukrainian nuclear power plants - Chornobyl and Zaporizhzhya.
• Already three million refugees from our state are fleeing to other countries. There could be several times that number. The migration crisis related to the war in Syria, which was also largely provoked by Russia, will be surpassed if NATO sits idly by.
A Ukrainian Leleka-100 drone identified a Russian Buk air-defence system and aimed Ukrainian artillery at it.
Address from Captain Svyatoslav Palamar, deputy commander of the Azov National Guard Regiment, aka Kalyna, from the besieged city of Mariupol:
It’s difficult for me to comment on today's events in Mariupol, because enemy aircraft don’t stop the bombing even for a moment. They’re destroying everything that has survived in this city. Their artillery and MLRS works. Tanks around the city shoot just passers-by. People are dying under the rubble, people are dying under the direct impact of air bombs. Putin's bastards are taking over hospitals, taking hostages, disguising themselves in civilian clothes, drawing red crosses on their cars, in violation of all international conventions.
At 3:30 p.m., a column of those who managed to get out of the city in their own vehicles was shot from "Grad" near Zaporizhia. The symbol of Mariupol, the Drama Theater, where 1,000 civilians were hiding, was destroyed. And it was done deliberately. They knew there were civilians. They also bombed the Neptune pool, where pregnant women with children hid and there were also many civilians. I don’t know why the world allows them to commit such terrible crimes. This is genocide! Genocide against the people of Ukraine! Against the Nation! They sow terror, they sow fear. But they also sowed hatred that would last for centuries.
I want the whole Ukraine to know that the defenders of this city, the military, are not just fulfilling their duty to defend the motherland, but a thousand times more.
They beat the enemy with their last ounce of strength. They beat the enemy without pity, without a doubt. Even the devils are turning over in hell! How many enemy equipment was burned and how many enemy infantry were killed? No one even counts anymore.
I know only one thing - we’re not going to forgive these bastards for what they’re doing to Ukraine! I want the whole world to hear this: Mariupol is Ukraine! The Azov Regiment and other defenders are doing everything possible to protect the city.
Renowned volunteer, paramedic, and People’s Hero of Ukraine Yulia Payevska (codename Tayra) and her driver Serhii were captured by Russians, volunteer Natalia Voronkova informs.
Yulia Payevska was saving the lives of civilians and the military in Mariupol.

On 16 March, the AFU air defence destroyed three Russian Su-30cm fighters, one Su-34 bomber, one aircraft of unspecified type, two helicopters and one tactical-operational level UAV.
In addition, the Land Forces Air Defence reports another downed Su-34 bomber and Ka-52 helicopter in the North and South, respectively.
Biden called Putin a war criminal.
"He is a war criminal," the US president said in response to a journalist's question.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed the command post of the 35th Army of the Russian Armed Forces' Eastern Military District in the Kyiv direction.
Address by Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov (full text here).
The situation remains difficult. Especially in the South and the East. However, our defenders are increasingly turning to counterattacks in different parts of the front, from Kyiv and Mykolaiv to Luhansk.
Burning enemy helicopters in Chornobaivka in Kherson Region is an example of what is happening to the occupier's troops.
More than 200 towns and villages in Russia have already held burials of the invaders who were destroyed on our land.
The Kremlin can no longer hide the crushing losses suffered by units of the airborne troops of the Russian Federation. Individual units from Kostroma, Kamyshin, Ulan-Ude, and other regions are already collectively storming hell.
Naval infantry from the Pacific Fleet, which is being prepared for a battle in a firestorm, will also go there.
The enemy continues committing war crimes against civilians. The deaths of 103 Ukrainian children killed by Russian invaders have been confirmed in 20 days. The Russians have destroyed and damaged more than 400 educational institutions and over 100 Ukrainian hospitals, thousands of residential buildings.
A true act of genocide is being committed against Mariupol. This is Russian state terrorism.
We will avenge every one of our citizens. All criminals will be punished.
