President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address on 13 March:

The beginning of today was black. Russian missiles and aerial bombs were once again hitting our nation. From sunrise to sunset. 30 rockets for the Lviv region alone. The shelling of the International Centre for Peacekeeping and Security killed 35 people and injured 134 others. There was nothing there that could threaten Russian Federation territory. And just 20 kilometres away are NATO's borders. Last year I clearly warned NATO leaders: if there are not tough preventive sanctions against Russia, it would lead to war. We were right.

...

American journalist Brent Renaud was killed today in the Kyiv region. His colleague was wounded. This was a deliberate attack by the Russian military. They knew what they were doing. But not everyone in the West seems to know what they are doing. In the east of our country, the Rashists decided to "demilitarise" and "denazify" the Sviatogorsk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. At the time of the strike, there were only monks and hundreds of refugees on the territory of the monastery. There was no military target in or near the monastery. But Russian troops do not stop even before strikes on the monastery.

...

Today I visited our guys, our defenders, who are recovering from wounds in a military hospital. We had a talk. I presented them with awards. With orders and medals - for courage, for glory for Ukraine. And I wish very much that my greeting to them "I wish them health" would work today as powerfully as our Armed Forces do holding the key positions. For 18 days now. By the way a Russian military serviceman from Ryazan is being treated in the same hospital. He is in the same room with our defenders. He receives the same care from the same doctors. Despite what this guy was doing against us, against Ukraine. But Ukrainian doctors saved him. And it is clear. Because they are people, not beasts. And they have to go through this war so that we all stay human.

...

Now I tell you about the negotiations with the Russian Federation. Every day, representatives of the delegations of our countries negotiate via video conference. Our delegation has a clear task - to do everything to make sure that a meeting of the presidents takes place. A meeting that I am sure people are expecting. It is clear that this is a difficult story. A difficult path. But the way is necessary. And our goal is for Ukraine to get the necessary result in this struggle, in this difficult negotiating work. It is necessary for us, for the peace and security. So that we have guarantees - normal, effective guarantees. Not as behind "Budapest" and not as in our sky. But such that Ukrainians could say: this works, these are guarantees.

...

The humanitarian corridor to Mariupol was blocked. Again. We've done everything that needs to be done. Ensured silence. Russian troops disrupted the movement of cargo and buses.

But we will try again. We will try again. Until we can help our people. For they are ours. Our Mariupol. To heroic Mariupol. Ukrainians!
We are going through the most terrible test in our history, in our life.
We protect the most precious things for us. We must hold on, we must fight. We will overcome. I believe in it.

The US State Department and UNESCO have reacted to the killing of American journalist Renaud by Russian occupiers in Ukraine.

"We are shocked that journalists and cameramen - who are not part of the conflict - have been killed and injured by Kremlin forces in Ukraine. We extend our condolences to all those affected by this horrific violence. This is another horrific example of the Kremlin's indiscriminate actions," said State Department spokesman Ned Price.

"Journalists play a critical role in reporting during conflict, they should never be targeted. I call for respect for international humanitarian standards, to make sure that journalists and other media workers are protected," UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said in a statement.

Russia is developing a special operation: it plans to disguise the Belarusian military in Russian uniforms and send them to fight in Ukraine, NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danylov said on the Rada TV channel.

An address by Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces:

"We have shattered the myth of the 'invincibility' of the Russian army.

They expected to conquer us in 48 hours. Food, fuel and ammunition supplies were calculated to last at most 3 days. But we stopped them and thwarted their plans for capture. The enemy was taking heavy losses in personnel and equipment.

This war proves how far we have come in recent years. Today, the Russian army is as professional as we were at the beginning of 2014.

A telling example of their "military prowess" is the story of the "shot down" Ukrainian Bayraktar.

At 9:32 a.m. today, a Russian UAV that was on its way to conduct reconnaissance in the Kharkiv region was shot down at an altitude of 3,200 metres by Tor missile system of the Russian Armed Forces' 6th Army near Veseloye in the Kharkiv region. At the same time, Russian air defence servicemen reported to the leadership about the destruction of the UAV by our Armed Forces.

The results of an investigation into the reasons for the disappearance of the Russian Armed Forces' UAV proved that it had been shot down by its own air defence systems, but the army command decided to conceal this information.

This is how the "second most powerful army in the world" fights.

“Temporary protection” for citizens of Ukraine in the EU countries.

In connection with Russia’s war against Ukraine, Ukrainian citizens can apply for international protection in the EU. In addition to the well-known refugee status, another tool has become relevant – “temporary protection”.

Temporary protection does not mean obtaining refugee status, however, individuals who have received temporary protection in the EU can apply for refugee status at any time.

Term of temporary protection.

  • It lasts for 1 year, this period can be automatically extended to the next year depending on the situation in Ukraine
  • Rights of the individuals receiving the temporary protection
  • residence permit for the period of temporary protection (for 1 year with the possibility of extension)
  • access to work (there is no requirement to wait 6 months in contrast to obtaining refugee status in this case)
  • access to education. Children under the age of 18 have the right to study in educational institutions equally with the citizens of the host country
  • provision of housing (settling in the centre or providing livelihoods)
  • access to social security
  • access to health care
  • the right to relevant information on temporary protection
  • the opportunity to obtain refugee status in the future
  • the opportunity to return to the country of citizenship at any time.

The specific rights of a person who has applied for temporary protection are determined by the domestic law of a particular EU country. Therefore, in order to use them, you need to apply for a residence permit to the authorities of the country concerned with temporary protection. There, displaced Ukrainians must be issued a document explaining their status and rights in a language they understand.

    Persons covered by temporary protection

1. citizens of Ukraine who were forced to leave Ukraine on February 24, 2022, or after that date as a result of a military invasion by Russian troops

2. stateless persons and citizens of third countries, except Ukraine, who enjoyed international protection or equivalent national protection in Ukraine until February 24, 2022

3. family members of the first two categories, including spouses (including unregistered marriages, if recognized by the EU Member State concerned) and their minor unmarried children or the children of their spouses, regardless of whether they were born in wedlock or out of wedlock or adopted), as well as their close relatives who lived with them in the family at the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and who were fully or mostly dependent on persons from the first two categories

4. citizens of third countries who legally resided in Ukraine until February 24, 2022, on the basis of a valid permanent residence permit issued in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine, and who cannot return to their country or region of origin in safe and long-term conditions.

Contact the relevant agencies in the EU member states for more information. The issue of granting temporary protection or refugee status is the exclusive prerogative of the competent authorities of the host country.

Please note that refugee status and the status of a person under temporary protection differ significantly (in terms of deciding on granting status, freedom of choice of residence, opportunities for movement, amount of assistance, etc.). Due to the fact that each country implements these international statuses in its own legislation with certain differences, we recommend that you decide to obtain a status only after receiving full information from the official authorities of your host country. Foreign diplomatic missions of Ukraine publish the contact information of such bodies, as well as links to relevant sources (in particular, translated into Ukrainian) on the interactive map https://tripadvisor.mfa.gov.ua and the pages of embassies / consular offices on Facebook.

That gave the opportunity for occupiers to carry out missile and bomb attacks. The married couple who collaborated with Intelligence agencies of Russia were also detained: the man helped to correct the shelling, and the woman promoted the ideas of the occupiers on social networks.

In Odesa: an agent was detained who was collecting information about the defensive structures that the Self-Defence forces had set up in the region.
