Trump says he saved Iran's leader from "ignominious death". Tehran calls for a change of tone
U.S. President Donald Trump commented on Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's statement about "winning the war with Israel." In a social network, he said, that this is not true and that the United States saved him from a "shameful death.".
"Why did the so-called 'supreme leader' so boldly and foolishly declare that he had won the war with Israel when he knows that his statement is a lie? It is not true. As a man of great faith, he should not lie," Trump said.
He said Iran had been "destroyed" and three nuclear facilities had been destroyed. The United States knew exactly where Khamenei was hiding, but did not allow Israel and its army to kill him, the US president said.
"I saved him from a disgusting and shameful death. And he shouldn't thank me," Trump said.
According to him, at the last moment of the war, the United States asked Israel to turn around a "very large group of aircraft" that were headed directly for Tehran. According to Trump, if he had not done so, there would have been a "final blow and tremendous damage" resulting in the deaths of many Iranians.
Trump also noted that in recent days he had been working on the possible lifting of sanctions against Iran to allow the country to recover faster. But after "a blow in the form of statements full of anger and hatred," this work has been suspended.
"Iran must return to the flow of the world order, otherwise things will only get worse for them... They have no hope, and it will only get worse! I would like the Iranian leadership to realize that you often get more out of a carrot than a stick," Trump said..
Iran has reacted to the US president's statement. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said, that if Trump still wants to reach a deal with Tehran, he must abandon the "disrespectful and unacceptable" tone toward Iran's Supreme Leader.
"The great and powerful Iranian people have shown the world that the Israeli regime has no choice but to run to 'daddy' to avoid being shelled by our missiles. We do not take threats and insults kindly," Araqchi said..
He also said that if illusions lead to serious mistakes, Iran will not hesitate to reveal "its real capabilities. And this will put an end to any illusions about the country's power.
"Goodwill begets goodwill, and respect begets respect," – summed up the Iranian Foreign Minister.
