Border guards: Almost 1400 people tried to illegally cross the border with Belarus over the year

In 2025, hundreds of people tried to illegally cross the border with Belarus, but the border with the European Union still holds the record for the number of people trying to cross it illegally. Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said this during the telethon.

According to him, in 2025, about 1,400 people were detained who tried to illegally cross the border with Belarus. He clarified that most attempts to illegally cross the border still remain in the direction of the EU states.

At the same time, Demchenko clarified that such attempts have decreased recently. In the summer, there were many more such cases. The SBGS spokesman attributed this to the deteriorating weather conditions.

Commenting on the situation on Ukraine's border with Belarus, he said that there were no major changes there. No movement or activity of troops on the other side of the border has been recorded.

"But again, this area, the border with Belarus, remains an active area for us," Demchenko said.
