Ukraine's losses in killed and wounded in a full-scale war could amount to about 600,000 servicemen, and Russia's – almost 1.2 million. And the occupiers' advance on the front is no more than 70 meters per day. About said in a new study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC (CSIS).

The total number of killed, wounded, and missing persons is allegedly about 1.8 million, and by the spring of 2026 it could reach 2 million. It is difficult to establish accurate data because since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Moscow has been underreporting its losses, and Kyiv has not officially disclosed them.

In 2025, about 415,000 Russian soldiers were wounded or killed, an average of 35,000 per month. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, between 100,000 and 140,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed, according to the Center.

As for Russia's losses among North Korean mercenaries, the Center estimates that several hundred of the 15,000 sent by the DPRK may have been killed.

The study used, among other sources, estimates from the US and UK governments. The data provided gives a "grim picture" of Russia's "sluggish progress" on the frontline: the occupiers move 15 to 70 meters (50 to 230 feet) per day on the frontline. According to the Center, since January 2024, Russia has occupied 1.5% of Ukraine's territory.

Chasiv Yar and Pokrovsk were included in the list of the speed of advance in key battles since World War I. It is noted that the pace of advance there is slower than the Battle of the Somme in World War I:

→ Chasiv Yar -15 m/day (10 km in 23 months)
→ Kupiansk – 23 m/day (9.5 km in 14 months)
→ Pokrovsk – 70 m/day (50 km in 23 months)
→ Huliaypole – 297 m/day (still slow according to the Center).

For comparison, the key offensives of the Defense Forces since 2022 are presented:

→ Liberation of Kherson in November 22 – 590 m/day
→ Robotino in the summer of 2023 – 90 m/day, also included in the list of historically slow advances
→ Kharkiv counteroffensive in September 2022 – 7400-7500 meters per day. According to the Center, this is one of the fastest offensives in modern history due to the effect of surprise and weak Russian defense.
→ Kursk operation in August 2024 (beginning) – 1250 m/day (about 30 km in the first three weeks deep into Russia, due to the suddenness and poor preparation of the enemy's defense).
