Russia lacks modern equipment. It is forced to return outdated T-62 tanks

Russia is forced to return obsolete T-62 tanks to service due to a lack of modern equipment. This was stated by in the Main Intelligence Directorate.
Due to large-scale and irreversible losses of weapons and military equipment, Russia is resorting to massive mothballing of obsolete combat vehicles. The reserves of 1970s-era equipment have been depleted, so the Russian army command has begun to actively return even older models to service, including T-62 tanks.
"The restoration of these vehicles takes place mainly on the basis of the 103rd Armored Repair Plant, located in the urban village of Atamanovka, Trans-Baikal Territory. T-62 tanks are supplied to the combat zone mainly from the warehouses of the Eastern Military District," the DIU reported .
on June 27, 21 units of T-62 tanks were observed being transferred from the Eastern Military District to the European part of Russia. The technical condition of most of these tanks is unsatisfactory, the DIU noted.
"The tanks have been stored in the open for decades without maintenance. However, due to the acute shortage of modern main battle tanks, such as the T-90M and T-72B3M, the use of the T-62 is seen as a temporary but forced solution," the intelligence service reported .
Among the key factors limiting the production of modern armored vehicles in Russia, the DIU named a lack of industrial capacity and a shortage of imported high-tech components.
"In practice, T-62s are used not only as active combat units, but also as stationary firing points to strengthen defensive positions," the intelligence added .
According to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of June 28, 10,970 Russian tanks were destroyed.
- on June 27, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that in 2024 12 countries supplied machine tools to Russian defense companies. These are, in particular, the United States, Germany, and France.
- Unmanned systems forces destroyed a rare North Korean M1991 MLRS. According to LIGA.net in the 413th Brigade, this is an analog of the Soviet Uragan.
