Police: Two Odesa residents created fake Magyar page and raised UAH 1 million for their needs

Law enforcement officers detained two residents of Odesa region who were collecting donations on behalf of the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine Robert Brovdi (Magyar). This was reported by the press service of the National Police and Office of the Prosecutor General.

Police found out that the men had created a number of fake accounts on TikTok using Magyar's real name. They posted real videos of the soldier and, posing as him, raised funds allegedly for the needs of the unit.

According to the investigation, they subsequently spent the fraudulently collected funds on their own needs. So far, seven citizens who transferred funds to their accounts have been identified. The cyber police identified the administrators of the fraudulent accounts and their places of residence. They were residents of Odesa region, one of whom is a minor .

The prosecutor's office clarified that the detainees are men aged 17 and 20. They were served with a notice of suspicion of fraud committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy using electronic means.

According to the PGO, the suspects managed to collect UAH 1 million. Now they face up to eight years in prison.
