Zelenskyy spoke with Trump: Agreed to work on increasing air defense

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with US President Donald Trump, reported the Head of the Office of the president, Andriy Yermak. Later, the Ukrainian leader announced that, among other things, he agreed with the US leader to work on increasing the protection of Ukrainian airspace.
"A very important and meaningful conversation between the presidents. All details – very soon," Yermak wrote.
UPDATED. President Zelenskyy called the conversation with Trump "very important and useful". The Ukrainian leader congratulated his colleague and the American people on Independence Day.
"We in Ukraine are grateful for all the support provided, which allows us to protect people's lives and our independence. We have done a lot together with America and support all efforts to stop the killings and restore a normal, sustainable, dignified peace. A decent peace agreement is needed, and Ukraine supports the American proposals," the head of state noted.
The politicians discussed Russian air attacks and the situation on the front lines. Zelenskyy noted that "Trump is very well informed."
The presidents discussed possibilities for air defense and agreed to work on increasing the protection of the Ukrainian skies – they agreed on a meeting of the teams of the two countries.
Zelenskyy noted that he and Trump "spoke in detail" about the capabilities of the defense industry and joint production.
"We are ready for direct projects with America and believe that this is extremely necessary for security, especially regarding drones and related technologies," the Ukrainian president noted.
The leaders also discussed mutual procurement and investment, and exchanged views on the diplomatic situation and joint work between Ukraine and the United States and other partners.
Earlier, on July 3, Zelenskyy announced that he had a phone call scheduled with Trump for the following day. Prior to that, the Financial Times reported that the presidents would discuss the suspension of US arms supplies to Ukraine.
- On July 3, Trump spoke with Putin on the phone. After the call, the Kremlin announced that they had informed the US about the progress of the implementation of the Istanbul agreements. The dictator himself stated that he would not abandon his demands on Ukraine.
- On July 4, Trump stated that he was dissatisfied and disappointed with the conversation with Putin, as no progress had been made.
- Republican Representative Don Bacon stated after the July 4th attack on Ukraine that Putin is mocking Trump and the United States. Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski also said that the dictator is mocking the US president's peace initiatives.
