In Lviv, a joint Ukrainian-Polish expedition discovered a mass grave of Polish victims of World War II. Preliminary reports indicate the exhumation of approximately 40 soldiers. This was reported... reports Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.

The expedition included Ukrainian and Polish forensic experts, anthropologists, and historians. They investigated the territory of the old cemetery of the former village of Zboiska (or Zboischcha), which is now located within Lviv. Polish soldiers who died at the beginning of World War II were buried here.

Approximately 40 military personnel's bodies have been exhumed so far, but the exact number of casualties will be known after the remains are identified.

Among the artifacts found are buttons from military uniforms, insignia, weapons, helmets, and tokens with numbers. One of them still has the soldier's surname engraved on it by hand.

"We understand that this is a tragedy of two nations – Ukrainian and Polish, who became victims of totalitarian regimes. It is important that the search operations are taking place in the format of a joint expedition. This demonstrates a mutual willingness to dialogue and mutual respect," said Andriy Nadjos, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications.

According to him, the Polish side announced its intention to conduct search and exhumation work in 13 locations in Ukraine. Such work is also planned in four locations in Poland. The work is carried out in stages: the site is surveyed, exhumation is performed, and then reburial.
